LAUNCH Smartlink Remote Diagnostics Function Guide

Technical Manual: Launch SmartLink

Comprehensive step-by-step guide to operation, ecosystem, and activation

The LAUNCH Smartlink Remote Diagnostic Platform is an advanced service ecosystem where Smartlink C (Customer/Workshop End) posts a help request, and Smartlink B (Technician End) responds and provides remote service.

This allows complex problems to be solved without having the OEM scanner physically in the workshop, creating a highly beneficial business model for both parties.

1. Compatibility and Functionality

Why choose Super Remote Diagnostics (SRDs)?

  • No in-depth knowledge required: You don't need to be an expert in programming or coding; you have a network of global experts supporting you remotely.
  • Minimum Hardware: You only need a Smartlink C locally. On the other hand, experts use high-end OEM tools and powerful servers.
  • Unlimited Functions: Allows you to perform everything from simple coding to complex programming (J2534) that usually require agency tools.

Compatible Devices

The remote diagnostic function is available for the product series equipped with a SmartLink connector:

  • Launch X431 PAD V Elite
  • Launch X431 PAD VII Elite
  • Launch X431 PRO5
  • Smartlink C and Smartlink B standalone modules

System Structure

The system consists of two critical parts connected by the Cloud Platform:

SIDE A: Smartlink C (Client) It connects to the vehicle's OBDII port and the internet. It's the device that "calls for help." It also functions as a local J2534 interface for its own diagnostics.
SIDE B: Smartlink B (Technical) It connects to the diagnostic tool (Launch/OEM) and the Internet. It is the one that "sends the commands" to the remote vehicle from anywhere in the world.

2. Activation Methods

To use the remote diagnostic service, a valid license is required . Choose the correct option for your device:

SCENARIO A: Launch X431 PRO5 / PAD V / PAD VII (SmartLink Included)

If you purchased a scanner that already includes the SmartLink VCI, you can purchase:

  • Annual Card (Subscription): Unlimited use for 1 year.
  • Renewal Card (Per Time/Token): Includes 3 initial free uses (valid for 1 year). Once used up, you can recharge with packages of 1, 10, 20, or 50 connections.
SCENARIO B: Launch SmartLink C (Standalone Hardware)

Similar to the previous scenario. You need to purchase the Annual Card or Renewal Card multiple times to activate it for the first time.

SCENARIO C: SmartLink B (For Technicians)

Only accepts the Annual Renewal Card . Server-side (technical) support is intermittent; you must have an active annual subscription to receive jobs.

3. Step-by-Step Guide: Registration and Use

Follow these detailed instructions to register your team on the official server.

Phase 1: Create User Account

1 Access to the Web Portal
Open your browser (we recommend Chrome or Edge) and go to: http://smartlink.x431.com/login .
Click on the "Register Now" link usually located in the corner of the login box.
2 User Type Selection
The system will ask you to choose your role. It is vital to select the correct one to avoid future errors.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: If you are a workshop and have the SmartLink C to request help, select "COMMON USER" .
Do NOT select "Service Provider" unless you will be providing technical service to others.
3 Data Filling
Complete the form with your real information:
  • Username: User name (without spaces).
  • Password: Secure password.
  • Email: Real email for verification and recovery.
Accept the terms and complete the registration.

Phase 2: Linking and Activation

4 Add Device
Log in with your new account. You will be taken to the main dashboard. Look for the "Bind Device" or "Activate Device" option in the side or top menu.
5 Hardware Data
You will need the Password Envelope that came in the device box. Enter:
Product S/N: (12 digits, usually starts with 98...)
Activation Code: (8 digits, printed on the paper)
6 License Exchange
The system will detect the device and prompt you to activate the service. Select the "Activation Card" or "Renewal Card" payment method.

Enter the details of the Digital Card you purchased from OBD Master:
  • Card Number: Long card code.
  • Password: PIN of the digital card.
Click Activate. Your device is now ready to use.

Phase 3: Request a Service

7 Post Request
In the menu, click on "Post Request" . Fill in the vehicle details (VIN, Model, Year) and clearly describe the fault or service required (e.g., "Online programming of ABS module", "Immobilizer pairing").
8 Select Technician
You can choose a specific provider (if you already have prior contact with one) or leave the request open in the "Public Hall" for any available provider to take it.
9 Physical Connection
When a technician accepts the request:
  1. Connect the SmartLink C to the vehicle's OBDII port.
  2. Connect the SmartLink C to the Internet (Ethernet network cable recommended or very stable WiFi).
  3. Turn the key to the ON position and wait for instructions from the technician.
Note: Do not disconnect the power or internet during the process. If the motor needs to be started or stopped, the technician will inform you via chat on the platform.

Activation and Top-Up Resources

⚠️ Is this your first time using SmartLink?

If your device is new or has never been activated, DO NOT purchase individual top-ups yet . You first need to purchase the Initial Activation License (which includes your first 3 tokens).

Do you already have an account and have run out of uses? The system is flexible. Purchase recharge cards according to your needs:
